posticon Dear Margaret - Feeling Unimportant

dearmargaretDear Margaret: I've been in a relationship with a woman for the last 15 years and for the most part we're quite happy together. However, my partner's work has started to become the central focus of her life. She works late many nights, and takes calls during off hours, including vacations. I understand this is part and parcel of her particular occupation, and I appreciate the substantial monetary benefits her work affords us. However, I'm left feeling like the third wheel in a relationship between my wife and her career. I don't even know how to broach this subject without appearing whiney and needy. How can I become more in focus in this relationship?

posticon Dear Margaret - Seasick of Mother in Law

dearmargaretDear Margaret: My mother-in-law is a busybody. She calls every day and always has to know everything our children are doing and voice her opinion, which usually means her disapproval. She wants to know every time they are sick, what I am doing about it, who their friends are, when their sports events are scheduled, how their grades are, and on and on. And, if they fall short in any area, I'm to blame. She's getting on my nerves and I'm having trouble being civil to her. My husband doesn't seem to mind the intrusions, and our kids don't realize their grandmother is so nosey. I don't want to cause a rift in my marriage or cause hard feelings between my mother-in-law and me. How can I handle this without rocking boats? I'm the only one that's getting seasick!

Next Wednesday (March 8th) the Lansing Middle School Auditorium will be transformed to the 1960s when Lansing High School presents its rendition of the musical 'Hairspray'.  Director Cindy Howell says over 100 people are involved in making this production happen, including 40 cast members, around 20 musicians, and many parents and students working behind the scenes.  Howell says the show is controversial, addressing issues from the '60s that are still problems in the 21st century.

"Lansing prides itself on how we treat people and how we think," she says.  "I said to the cast that we need to take a step higher.  We need to think about how we treat people within the cast.  And we need to be ready because people are going to criticize our show and why we did it."

Brain injury can impact family dynamics, community activities, employment and social life. Behavioral changes that may occur as a result of brain injury can also have a significant impact on the ability to interact with others and conform to the rules and structure of society.
