Rogues' Harbor Inn
Spring is springing, and that means the Cayuga Wine Trail is celebrating its 25th anniversary with its Wine & Herb Festival.  On April 26th & 27th and May 3rd & 4th each winery along the trail will be handing out a different planting herb, as well as souvenir glasses and recipes.  Here in Lansing the historic Rogues' Harbor Inn is taking the celebration a step further.  "Our thinking was that when they are done with their wine tasting and collecting of all their herbs they can come here for dinner," says the inn's events coordinator Sandra Pierzinski.

The Inn has paired with two other east shore businesses to create a special dinner that not only celebrates the wine trail, but local businesses and produce as well.  Chef Larry Chiszar will use herbs from Bakers' Acres and King Ferry Winery 's Treleaven wines to create special dishes for the event.  Patrons will get a booklet telling about the herbs and wines that includes recipes, herb trivia, suggestions about what wines go with which meals, and gardening tips.  And diners will get a chance to win door prizes, baskets prepared by Bakers' Acres.

David Klemm
David Klemm was supposed to serve as Lansing School District Interim Business Administrator from September through December of last year, to fill in until a new permanent business official could be hired in January.  When that person decided not to take the job Klemm agreed to stay for a little over three extra months, which is up Next tuesday (April 15).  Samuel Sanfratello will fill in as Interim Business Official until the school board can find a permanent hire.

Klemm has overseen a difficult budget process that will result in over a million dollars worth of cuts to keep taxes to a level that voters will accept and also to pay for overspending in this year's budget.  He worked first with Interim Superintendent Tom Helmer, and then with Superintendent Stephen Grimm to make sure the Board Of Education got the message that something drastic has to be done to restore Lansing to a healthy fiscal condition.

posticon Village Says Farewell to Moore

The Village of Lansing said farewell to Frank Moore Monday, at his last meeting as a Village Trustee.  Moore is stepping down as a Trustee after eight years of service to the Village.  "The way we deal with that is to have a little celebration," said Mayor Donald Hartill.  "I would personally like to thank you very much for all of the help that you provided, and especially the yeoman service you did on the sewer.  It's nice to see a theoretical hydrodynamacist actually get down to the nitty gritty!" he joked.

Dear IMO,

About a month ago, our son moved back in with us.  He is 28 years old and in the midst of changing careers.  At first, we thought it was nice to have him back.  We enjoyed sharing our meals with him and had fun watching some television together. But he’s been a bit of a challenge lately.  His simple requests have turned into demands.  For example, he used to ask, very politely, if I would iron his shirts.  Naturally, I agreed.  This week, he had a fit because his favorite shirt was not ironed; I merely took it out of the dryer and hung it up in his closet.  I thought it looked fine, and to tell you the truth, I rarely iron anything these days.  My husband says we should begin to charge him room and board; nothing exorbitant, but some amount that will let him he’s not the prince of the manor.  Do you think that’s a good idea?

Liz

Dear IMO,

Where does April fool's Day come from? I've heard several stories about this ranging from some group in France to the silliness that comes with young lovers in spring. Can you help me out with this one?

Thanks,
Jeanette

posticon Lansing Students Make A Difference

Tonight (Friday) at 5pm Lansing Youth Services hosts its annual spaghetti supper to raise funds to support its programs.  But this time Lansing middle schoolers will also be raising money for Family and Children's Services of Ithaca.  "I am so blown away by this," says Youth Services Program Manager Isabel Bazaldua.  "I am so proud of these students.  A lot of people think of middle-schoolers as selfish.  This program demonstrates to me that they simply need an opportunity to demonstrate their generosity and that they're really not selfish."

posticon Silver Sabotage Raises Money For Cancer

Print Print

Leave it to Lansing High School students to make fundraising fun.  This year the Student Council (SCO) has been finding unique ways to raise 'Pennies For Patients,' a national fund raiser for the benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society .   'Stall The Teacher' had participating teachers counting student-donated pennies before they could start teaching that day.  Some kids got really into it and some of the teachers did.  A cake wheel raised almost $200.  A rave for charity and a raider ball tournament were part of the effort.  But a recent competition raised $421.11 as students from each of the four classes sabotage their competitors' penny jars.
