The $1.1 million project will reduce the cost of energy, use energy more efficiently and dramatically reduce emissions. The installation is projected to reduce grid purchases from 5,500,000 kwh to approximately 3,900,000 kwh annually. The system will use natural gas to generate electricity and use heat recovery. In year 1, this will save approximately 15,862 CO2e tons, reducing emissions 98%. This is equivalent to the emission of 2,616 cars.
The TCIDA's Energy-Related Investment Policy was adopted in 2008 to encourage local businesses to invest in facilities and equipment that will increase energy efficiency and/or transition to renewable energy sources, reduce operating costs, and lower emissions. Applicants are eligible to receive sales tax abatements on materials and equipment purchases related to the energy related project. The South Hill Business Campus is the first project awarded incentives under this policy.
TCIDA is administered by Tompkins County Area Development (TCAD).
