Congressman Tom Reed Monday visited CUTCO Cutlery’s Olean location for a tour of the facility, a meeting with Cutco senior leadership and a town hall-style question and answer session with Cutco department heads, employees and union officials.

“There’s no better way to get a feel for the manufacturing climate than to be meeting with employees and taking the economic temperature here on the ground,” Congressman Reed said of his visit. “CUTCO is a great example of American manufacturers ‘making it here and selling it there’ and the more we know about their success and the barriers they do face, the better off Congress is at creating an environment conducive to job growth.”

During the town hall-style meeting with employees, the conversation centered on strengthening workforce development and business regulations in New York State, creating significant barriers to growth. Reed spoke with the group about the work being done to advance his Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation (RAMI) Act and how the network of public-private partnerships would help train the next generation of skilled workers to fill high-tech positions, including those at CUTCO.

CUTCO Corporation President and COO Jim Stitt, Jr. led Congressman Reed on a tour of the facility following a meeting with CUTCO leadership including finance, marketing and human resources personnel.

“It was an honor to have Congressman Tom Reed visit us today,” said President and COO Jim Stitt, Jr. “It’s very important for our lawmakers at all levels of government to see first-hand the issues we face, and to meet and talk with the fine people who make up our great American workforce.”

As co-chair of the House Manufacturing Caucus, Congressman Reed has been meeting with employees of manufacturers throughout the district, including a recent visit to Lufkin-RMT and Nucor Vulcraft in addition to a meeting bringing together regional manufacturers of all sizes.
