When locally owned REMAX In Motion moved to its new digs on Meadow Street in Ithaca at the beginning of the year, it was cold and snowy.  This summer has been anything but cold.  So Broker/Owner Melissa Miller decided to hold a grand opening a week ago, and to have a little fun at the same time.

"We're having Christmas in July," explained Broker Associate Amanda Ryen-Yowhan.  "There are snow cones for everybody.  It is a brand new event."


Snow cones, sangria, and Christmas decorations were featured outside the new facility.  The ribbon cutting took place months ago, and real estate agents threw snowballs at the Chamber of Commerce representative that came to do it.  That wasn't likely to happen at Christmas in July, which served as REMAX In Motion's much warmer grand opening.  The firm wasn't able to have its annual Christmas Party this year, so the event took on that role as well as providing a cool moment during the hot summer.


Ryen-Yowhan says that now is a great time to buy real estate while interest rates are below five percent.  Additionally the June 30 deadline for closing to qualify for a federal tax credit has been extended until the end of September.  She also says that the new office is working well for the firm.

"There is a lot of exposure to Route 13," she says.  " We've got some good parking, which is always key downtown.  I think the road exposure is the biggest thing.  In the general scope of real estate the biggest thing was to invest in real estate.  That's exactly what we did."
