coffeeGimme! Coffee announced this month that the company and its partner farm, Finca San Luis, has won the Good Food Award. The third year in a row for Gimme, this year has the added honor of receiving the Good Food Award Gold Seal, which recognizes coffees that are certified organic.

Finca San Luis is a small farm in Tolima, Colombia, where farmer Omar Arango grows and mills his coffee in tiny batches. Gimme’s Director of Coffee, Colleen Anunu, traveled to Colombia and worked with Arango over the past three years to create an innovative trading model, dubbed “relationship coffee.”

Over the course of this partnership, Gimme raised over $3,000 to build a new mill for Finca San Luis, helped the farm to sustain its Organic certification, and brought Arango price premiums and international recognition. Now, for the third year running, his coffee is a Good Food Award winner. Only fifteen winners were chosen from a field of over 100 applications submitted from all over the United States. This microlot coffee is shade grown and has a taste profile that includes notes of ripe citrus, grape, apple, and peach.

The Good Food Awards ceremony was held in San Francisco and featured award-winning coffees, cheeses, chocolate, confection, preserves, spirits and more. The seal indicates foods that are tasty, authentic, and responsibly produced. Awards are given to producers and their food communities from each of the five regions of the United States.
