The Kitchen Theatre Company is celebrating the 20-year tenure of Associate Producing Director Lesley Greene as she departs the company on June 30. Many of the duties she performed will be taken on by a new team comprised of Artistic & Administrative Associate Tyler Struble and Connectivity Associate Marissa Accordino, whom she has been supervising and training since they joined the staff.

Greene originally came to the Kitchen Theatre as a volunteer, including serving on the Board of Directors. She was a part-time staff member for five years before joining full-time in 2003.

kitchen greeneLesley GreeneA producer, sound designer, composer, choreographer, director, and writer, her work at the Kitchen has included leading the marketing area; creating sound & projection designs (Cry It Out, The Roommate, Ironbound, Hand to God, Mary's Wedding, The Brothers Size, The Whipping Man, and many others); composing music (Physics Fair, Park Play, Winter Tales, Emmett & Ella's Big Apple Escapade, and more); dancing and creating choreography for Kitchen Theatre fundraising events; and acting in many productions for family audiences.

Greene has been the Kitchen’s chief grant writer for many years, raising over $1,500,000 to support our work, including the company’s first National Endowment for the Arts grant, a capital improvement grant from New York State, and workforce development grants that allowed the theater to hire a development director and many young theater professionals. She was also the Kitchen’s ersatz IT support specialist and created graphic designs and print layouts for the season program and other print and digital materials.

She curated and produced the Kitchen Theatre’s Kitchen Counter Culture series, bringing to Ithaca outstanding solo performance artists including Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Darian Dauchan, Vijai Nathan, Lenelle Moise, Tim Miller, Alexander Thomas, Roger Bonair-Agard, and Teresa Ralli (of Grupo Cultural Yuyachkani).

Greene’s work in the community includes being a co-founder of Porchfest, a music festival held on the porches of the Fall Creek and Northside neighborhoods since 2007 that now happens in over 150 cities around North America. The cast of the Kitchen’s production of Girlfriend participated in Porchfest in 2018.

The Board of Directors expressed thanks Greene for her years of service and commitment to the Kitchen Theatre Company, and said they looks forward to seeing her at Kitchen Theatre productions soon.
