ImageStephanie Hayes says, “Pita Gourmet on Main Street in Cortland is one of my favorite places. Everything tastes so fresh and you leave there feeling healthy. Start with the stuffed vegetarian grape leaves and the veggie platter can be either a shared appetizer or a meal for one. It includes homemade humus, baba ganouj, and tabouli. Vince Reynolds loves the lamb kebab.

Linnett Short concurred. She loves Gourmet Pita too. “All the food is delicious, but make room for dessert when possible: rice pudding or Baklava with honey and a little rose water for a taste sensation.

(Funny! I’ve been trying to find the time to get back there for several months now.  Pita Gourmet is fairly modest looking, kitchen to the front and booth seating to the back, but don’t judge the restaurant by its petite, simple look. We are talking serious value for your money- real Mediterranean cooking from the couple behind the counter. If they are not too busy ask them for a little pot of dark, strong coffee for a shining finish.)

Linnet also votes for the Woodland Roadhouse on Rte. 96 heading just out of Trumansburg going North towards Romulus. “A marvelous place for the devoted meat eater- steaks, burgers, and fresh smoked pork dishes, There is a little bar and lots of antiques. Another recommend from her is the Smart Monkey Café down on Rte 13 heading South, just across from the Payless shoes. They have organic burgers, tofu wraps, and other local grown foods.

Tina Sevola is devoted to Fine Line Bistro on State Street. She recommends that you start by having a drink at the ‘fun’ Felicia’s atomic Lounge then move next door for dinner. The Portobello mushroom dinner is great! She also likes Maxi’s (for good drinks, food, and fun atmosphere) and the Stone Cat Café out on Seneca Lake. The Stone Cat is surrounded by views of vineyards and offers gourmet food that is organic and locally grown..

I’ve run out of time and room. When we return we’ll discuss Mediterranean food in greater depth- Perhaps a few recipes too. ☺
