sumnerThe Lansing Community Library and the Ulysses Philomathic Library in Trumansburg are preparing to celebrate the end of the summer reading program and honor the children who participated. Each library will host a fun-filled party featuring a concert by children’s recording artist Rachel Sumner.

Sumner’s recordings have garnered numerous national awards for their educational merit and artistic quality. Her music videos have appeared on The Learning Channel and her recordings have been featured on children's radio programming around the world.

Sumner grew up in Rochester, New York. She currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee and is touring in western Pennsylvania and New York. She will present multicultural songs and tell an African folktale in a show she put together especially for the summer reading theme “One World, Many Stories.” The story and songs are also included on her new CD called Tap Those Toes, which has been receiving rave reviews by educators, librarians, and reviewers.

Sumner will invite the audience to dance to a Bolivian morenada, groove to a West African chant, and move to a rhythm and blues arrangement of "Doctor Knickerbocker." She will also feature handmade puppets during the storytelling portion of the show. Young and old will enjoy Sumner’s concert full of festive family fun. Both events are free and open to the public.

She will perform July 30, 2011 at the Ulysses Philomathic Library 11:00AM, and at the Lansing Community Library 2:00PM
