THE ODYSSEY an epic musical, Part I world premiere
book/lyrics by Rachel Lampert, music by Kevin Rockower

The Trojan War has finally ended and the citizens of Ithaca anxiously await the victorious return of King Odysseus (David Moreland pictured right)) and his men. But as soon as the King's ship is sighted on the horizon, it is strangely blown back out to sea! What follows? Adventures with Greek gods and goddesses (Erica Steinhagen as Athena, pictured left), a strange visit to the Land of the Lotus Eaters, and a close call with a cry-baby Cyclops in this story told by live actors and puppets. Smart TalkSmart Talk SMART TALK
By Laconia Crisp, R.N.

ALOT
:  Here's a so-called word with all the class of a painting on black velvet.  A lot is always two words.  No exceptions.  I've heard folks claim they learned alot from teachers who used it themselves.  This shows that somebody didn't learn a lot in school.  These teachers should write, “a lot” 100 times on each chalkboard in their school.

The Institute for the Linguistically Impaired grants Handicapped Writing Permits to incurable writers of alot.  With this permit goes the right to hang black velvet paintings in their homes.

posticon A Nice "The Apprentice?"

Print Print

Well it's official.  Jeff is the first candidate Martha fired as NBC assaults us with two versions of "The Apprentice."  In addition to Donald Trump's "Apprentice," which will air tonight (as of this writing on Thursday 9/22) there is now a Martha Stewart version.

I will admit that I don't really like reality shows.  There is enough reality in real life for me.  I prefer shows with a plot.  But I will also admit, somewhat reluctantly, that these shows hold a "watching a train wreck" style facination, and that I actually sat through most of the episodes of the first season of the supremely disappointing "Real Gilligan's Island."  (By the way Bob Denver, who played Gilligan, died last week.  I'd rather watch a two week marathon of his Gilligan on TVLand than another season of the so-called "Real" one any day!!!)

On Sunday, September 11, local artists had their works on display at five area businesses located along the East Shore of Cayuga Lake. These included the King Ferry Hotel, the Long Point Winery, the King Ferry Winery the East Shore Coffee House, and the Federal House Bed and Breakfast. Stephanie Levy, owner of the Federal House, decided to open up her Bed & Breakfast so the public “could feel more relaxed and at home with the local artists.” Stephanie is also an artist whose work is displayed at Handwork on the Commons in Ithaca.

A family's long-repressed dreams, desires and resentments bubble to the surface in this scorching examination of the American way of life by one of America's greatest 20th Century playwrights, Arthur Miller. Compelling and deeply moving, The Price explores the legacy of choices whose results control the present.

3 and a half stars3 and a half starsI am a huge fan of The Muppets.  And while I am not that big a fan of owning DVDs, when I learned that season one of The Muppet Show had been released it was a must-have.  The Muppet Show is my favorite manifestation of the ubiquitous puppets with it's silly Vaudeville style and the characters' edgy relationships.

What made the show work was that, quite like human performers, the puppet performers had their ups and downs, dreams, disappointments, and despite anything that might happen they seem to find kind words and encouragement for each other.  Just like life, only funnier.
