hangar_clyborneHangar Theatre continues its 39th season with the regional premiere of  Bruce Norris' award-winning play, Clybourne Park, running from August 8th through 17th. Named Time Magazine's #1 play of 2012, Clybourne Park also won the Tony Award for Best Play, the Olivier Award, the Evening Standard Award, and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

This cutting-edge, wickedly funny satire digs into the heart of race and real estate in the suburbs of Chicago. Inspired by historical events, the play begins in 1959 when a white couple sells their home to the neighborhood's first black family, and thus sparks controversy. Fifty years later, the house is again changing hands, this time to a young white couple moving into the now black community.

By Garrel S. Utter, R.N.

FEEL BADLY: At the Institute for the Linguistically Impaired, this problem is treated as a minor symptom of William F. Buckley Syndrome. The same patients also suffer from a compulsion to say indicated that instead of said.

Saying I feel badly, however, is really a grammatical problem. One doesn’t say You look beautifully. The correct beautiful is what trained experts call a predicate adjective. I feel badly means either that your emotions are on vacation, or that Braille feels like smooth paper.

I feel bad
whenever I hear this pompous error.

SMART TALKSMART TALK SMART TALK
By Saber S. Poder, R.N.

TRY AND: Just because great writers like Hemingway wrote "try and do it" doesn't make it right. You try to do something. Try and… may be a British phrase, but they're the folks who think there's a country called "Nicker-RAG-you-ah" and a book called Don QUIX-ot, so we can't always assume they speak real English. At the Institute for the Linguistically Impaired, we teach that try and do it is two jobs. Try to do it is one. Why do more work than you have to?

Tully Council for the Arts celebrates its tenth anniversary with its summer production of 'Peter Pan', based on the J. M. Barrie play. Performances will be held at Tully High School, at 5850 Elm Street, on Friday and Saturday, July 26 & 27 at 7:00 PM, and on Sunday, July 28 at 2:00 PM.

Whenever a production of PETER PAN is undertaken, a de facto donation is made to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, because J. M. Barrie left his copyrights in perpetuity to that institution. Echoing Barrie’s desire to support services that provided health care for children, Tully Council for the Arts is also raising money and donations of new art supplies for the children of the Golisano Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald house, both of Syracuse, in addition to that donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

SMART TALK
By Dr. Winton “Windy” Prolix

ALRIGHT: Writers have used alright in place of all right since the 14th Century.  Ain’t has a long history, too, and the same lack of class.  Maybe alright is riding the coattails of already and altogether, which actually have a reason to exist.  There’s a difference between being all ready and having already arrived, and between being all together and altogether too early.  But there’s no such distinction in modern English between all right and alright. All right?
