solar2A power-purchase agreement that could save the Lansing School District close to a half million dollars over 25 years is back on the table.  School Business Administrator Mary June King told the Board Of Education Monday that concerns about changes in various clauses in the contract have been worked out.

"We told them we would renegotiate the financial terms, but not the rest of the agreement," King said Monday.  "They agreed.  They have submitted the amendment to the agreement to me.  The Attorneys and I will have a phone conference to discuss those terms, and I hope I will bring something for you to approve on April 20th."

The contract would have saved the district over a million dollars during its 20 years lifespan, but higher construction costs, in part due to new state regulations, drove the price of constructing a 1.5MW solar array much higher than originally anticipated.  Last month King told the board that she was willing to negotiate on the price, but the new draft contract included changes to other clauses that were unacceptable.

Monday King said that if the attorneys sign off on the new contract she will bring it to the board for approval April 20th.

"If we move forward with it at that point then we should be well under way, I suspect, by next winter," she said.
