Washington, DC - Congressman Tom Reed announced nine grants worth $5,066,197 to provide local airports in Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, Olean, Penn Yan, Wellsville, and the Finger Lakes with funding to renovate and improve facilities.

"We care about ensuring our friends and neighbors have fair access to reliable transportation," Reed said. "These grants enable our local airports to fund maintenance projects and ensure the efficiency of their operations. It is important that we invest in our infrastructure and we are pleased these grants will allow our local airports to continue their high quality of service across to people across the district."

"Keeping airport infrastructure in top notch condition is a priority that affects operational reliability and safety," said Mike Hall, Director of the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport. "We appreciate this important federal funding to rehabilitate our primary taxiway and thank Representative Reed for his ongoing support of the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport."

"Seneca County appreciates the continued support of Congressman Reed and the FAA for the two phase Apron Reconstruction project at the Finger Lakes Regional Airport (FLRA)," said Robert Shipley, Chairman of the Seneca County Board of Supervisors. "Last summer, the FLRA successfully completed the North Apron Reconstruction project, and this funding will support work at the South Apron. This project will continue that momentum. It would not be possible without their support."

"These grants will help further our economic activity and growth in our region. We are very pleased to hear we received these grants," said Rita McCarthy, CEO of the Town of Erwin Industrial Development Board.

"This is great news for Wellsville and Allegany County," said Curt Crandall, Chairman of the Allegany County Board of Legislators. "This investment in the Wellsville Airport is an investment in the future and will help in our economic development efforts to grow new business, retain existing business and expand our higher education facilities in Allegany County and the surrounding area."

"The City of Olean is very grateful to the U. S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration for awarding grants of over $300,000 that will help the City rehabilitate the runway and reconstruct the apron at the Cattaraugus County Olean Airport," said William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean. "The Cattaraugus County Olean Airport is a vital asset not only to City of Olean but to the entire County; and this grant is a welcome resource as Olean continues to meet the fiscal challenges inherent in our annual budget."

The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) awards Airport Improvement Grants (AIP) through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the planning and development of public-use airports. In December 2018, USDOT awarded $205 million in supplemental funding for infrastructure grants to small airports in 34 states.
