School Vote Turnout Doubles

More than 650 residents voted in last Tuesday's election, more than doubling the number who voted in the last election. Bonita Lindberg and Thomas Keane kept their seats on the school board, while Glen Swanson filled the seat vacated by Michael Herzog.

All three budget resolutions also passed. The first approves the 2005-2006 budget of $20,007,661.00, 5.5% larger than the 2004-2005 budget.

The second approves the formation of a Capital Reserve Fund of up to $1,200,000 to finance construction. This is used to finance construction projects before state funding can be collected, allowing projects to be initiated without having to raise taxes.

The third allows the district to borrow $245,000 to purchase three new school busses. This money will be paid back with state money as it is allocated over the course of five years. Busses must be purchased this way because the state allocates 20% per year.

Mr. Swanson will begin his board duties July 1. Meanwhile he will attend four sessions for new school board members in Syracuse.
