recycling12_120County Attorney Jonathan Wood reported that the County has reached an agreement with Feher Rubbish Removal, Inc., following a finding that the firm had mixed recycling and solid waste in pick-up vehicles and delivered recyclables to a landfill.

Under the agreement, approved by a County hearing panel, Feher will pay a $20,000 fine and the $5,000 cost of the County’s investigation.  It will supply the county with any requested paperwork to confirm that the Company is not mixing loads. Feher also commits to deliver all recyclable material collected in the County to the County-owned Recycling and Solid Waste Center for at least one year, and agrees that any further violations will result in revocation of its license.

Wood stated that the firm is currently licensed and has committed to abiding by the rules governing recycling.  He told the Legislature he considers the settlement a good resolution of the matter, one which will result in future compliance and will send a message to all haulers, and communicate that the Solid Waste Division is committed to recycling and takes very seriously any violations of recycling rules by licensed haulers.
