"They're not increasing the height of the tower," says Lansing Town Attorney Guy Krogh. "They're not increasing the size of the tower. They are co-locating their array on that tower."
The antenna array will be located about 20 feet below the top of the tower, at 173 feet. It will service a variety of telecommunications services.
Krogh says the first step is to bring the project to the Town Board to determine the necessity for the equipment, safety, eventual decommissioning, and an environmental review. If the Town board votes affirmatively the project goes to the Planning Board for a site plan review before approval.
Councilwoman Ruth Hopkins says that the specifications indicate the array will provide at least 4G capabilities. She said the board should determine whether the equipment will be able to handle wifi. Krogh recommended that the board ask engineer David Herrick interpret the engineering data for the board. The specifications Verizon provided the board include maps showing existing and anticipated coverage.
