Born June 22, 1919 in Ithaca, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Harriet (Minier) Howland. Freda was a graduate of Ithaca High School and she attended hairdressing school for a period of time. She was married to Arthur A. Wilson in November of 1940, and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage before he passed away in 2002. Freda worked for many years in the family business, Howland’s Red & White Store in Lansing, and also had a beauty shop in her home. In her spare time she loved sewing, cooking, gardening, scrabble and all the pleasures that went along with raising and spending time with her family. Freda also enjoyed her canine companions and feeding the birds.
Survivors include her son, Floyd Wilson (Charlotte) of Lansing; daughter, Susan Shepardson (William) of VA; six grandchildren, many great grandchildren; special niece, Joan Holden; and a large extended family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Freda was preceded in death by her brothers, Leland and Jack Howland.
Family will be present to receive friends from 12-1 pm, Tuesday, December 16, at Lansing Funeral home, 32 Auburn Rd., Lansing. A funeral service, officiated by Edie Reagan, will begin at 1pm at the funeral home. Burial at North Lansing cemetery will be delayed until spring.
