He loved hunting, fishing, and playing cards. Allen worked as a machinist at Borg Warner for over 25 years. He was co-owner of the Plantation Inn and the Woodside Inn, now known as Kumas. Allen served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 624th Quartermaster Company as a truck driver hauling troops & supplies in Europe.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 691 in Ithaca; a member of the American Legion Post 770 in Trumansburg; and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ithaca.
Allen is survived by his loving and caring wife of 56 years, Annie C. Hover; several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his wife, family, great friends, and his faithful dog - Ben. A.J. was a jolly man who loved to tell jokes.
Friends and family may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service at the Herson Funeral Home on Wednesday April 15, 2009. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Ithaca. If desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Assn or to the American Heart Assn., or VFW Post 961, courtesy van fund.
