ImageI am writing in support of keeping the Lansing Library open by voting No on the anti-library proposition on the May 19th ballot in Lansing.  One issue involved is why the library cannot return to its former all-volunteer status. The library cannot return to being an all volunteer operation because of the constantly growing demand for library services in Lansing. This demand comes especially from families with young children, senior citizens and students.

Although we rely heavily on our more than 50 volunteers, we do not have enough volunteers to staff the library the longer hours needed to meet the needs of this diverse group of patrons, nor to expand our services.  We sought a charter in part because a charter enabled us to hire a library manager and an assistant.  Among many other aspects of their jobs, these trained professionals help keep the library open the additional hours required.
