Last week I talked about getting out and voting, and at risk of being a one-note Johnnie I'm saying it again. There are so many things that will affect our taxes and quality of life in the works that it only makes sense to exercise your voice now in the election.

Water, sewer, the school capital project, a new fire station in the Village, the library charter. These are all things our public officials will be working on in the coming year. All of them are important to the community, and the truth is that if you don't vote you really don't have the right to complain if they are not handled the way you would like them to be.

Voting is easy. You go to a polling place near your home and flip a few levers. It just takes a few minutes, and I've never seen a line so long that I minded waiting since I moved here. It is a privilege to vote, a duty and really a gift that many people elsewhere in the world don't get.

At some of the fire stations there are even dinners so you can make voting an occasion to celebrate with family and friends. So check out the "Elections" page in the Star, make your choice, go to your polling place.

That's my one note for the week: vote!
