This past week was "Spirit Week" at Lansing High School and one small action taken by a class of students made me realize that patriotism is indeed alive and well. Wednesday's theme was "Patriotic Day" and many students across the high school were adorned in the colors of the American flag. When it came time for the usual morning pledge of allegiance, reoccurring technical issues made this impossible.

A proud teacher was amazed as a class of students, without prompting or verbal cues from the inoperable announcements, stood and recited the pledge in unison! The best part was that within that one class were students of many different ethnic backgrounds and socio-economic status all pledging as one. I also know that this act was repeated by students, teachers, and staff around the entire building!
