As I understand the legal aspects of video monitoring, the Lansing school district would assume a certain degree of legal liability by installing video cameras. As the cameras would probably not be monitored during the day and certainly not at night, Lansing could be held liable in the result of an injury or loss by creating a false sense of security at the schools. Although the odds of losing a personal injury suit in a court of law are fairly low, the legal costs of defending the school district against such suits could be very high.
