hocky2_120The Tompkins Girls Hockey Association/Ithaca Shooting Stars had a strong showing with all teams playing in the 3rd Annual Finger Lakes Girls Association (FLAG) Tournament in Lysander on February 28th – March 2nd 2014. Two teams won 1st Place in their division: the 12/14-and-under team and the 19-and-under team.

The 8U team Results: The 8U (House) girls played in a jamboree format (cross-ice games). Most of the girls were participating in their first tournament in their career.

  • The 10U team Results: The 10U girls played Friday and Saturday against very tough competition. A good strong effort by the girls who have had a great year of playing and learning.
  • 12/14U team Results: The 12/14U team went 3-0 in all 3 games in the tournament. Game 1 vs Binghamton 3-2; Game 2 vs. Oswego 3-1; Championship game went to Overtime and then a shootout, with Ithaca winning 3-2. Ericka Oplinger (2) had the winning goal in the shootout. Other goal scorers were Nicole Nixon (3), Charlie Rowe, Amy Milner (3) and Dori Shipman. Assists were from Nicole Nixon, Elizabeth Talty and Alexandra Starostina. Catie Eisenhut played in goal for all 3 games.
  • 19U team Results: The 19Uteam went 3-0 in all 3 games in the tournament. Game 1: vs. Valley, 2-0; Game 2 vs. Binghamton, 1-0; Championship Game vs. Binghamton; 3-0. Goals scored by Rachel Brock (2), Anastasia Lyon, Zoe Seznec Sweetland, Aiya Taylor, and Jacy Hollander. Hollander and Becky Urda each had 3 assists and Brock had one assist. Devin Baylor was in goal for three shutouts and total of 109 saves.
  • Also of note: the 19U team finished 2nd in Sectionals February 22nd-23rd, 2014 in Cortland which advances them to the State Tournament in Rochester on March 14-16! Congratulations girls on a great job and we will be rooting for you in States!
