Boys Coach of the Year Adam HeckTaughannock Media, owners of ESPN Ithaca – WPIE, in partnership with Ehrhart Energy and Cayuga Medical Center, is recognizing 55 coaches and scholar-athletes for their outstanding performances during the 2013-14 school year. The recipients, many accompanied by family, colleagues and friends, will be celebrated at the Night of Champions Awards Dinner at the Country Club of Ithaca at 6pm on Sunday, June 8th.This inaugural event is designed to showcase the top talent of all varsity sports from 15 local high schools including most of the IAC and one in the STAC West.
ESPN Ithaca President and General Manager, Todd Mallinson stated, “These are very talented scholar-athletes and coaches who represent the best in our area. Night of Champions is a natural progression in our coverage and support of high school sports and we’re pleased to provide this event to bring such a skilled field of athletes and coaches together at one time.”
Two $1,000 scholarships, contributed by Ehrhart Energy, will be awarded to both the Male and Female Scholar- Athletes of the Year. Two $500 scholarships, given by Cayuga Medical Center, will also be presented to the top Coaches of the Year, one in a girls sport and one in a boys sport. The scholarships will be granted to scholar- athletes the coaches select at their respective schools.
2013-14 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year is Eryn Griep, a three sport athlete at Marathon High, contributing to the success of the Field Hockey, Basketball and Softball teams.
2013-14 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is Matt Gill, a three sport athlete at Watkins Glen High, excelling for the Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track teams.
2013-14 Coach of the Year in a Girls Sport is Lee Stuttle, veteran coach at Dryden High, led his Track athletes to top team and individual finishes at the IAC, Section IV and NY State meets.
2013-14 Coach of the Year in a Boys Sport is Adam Heck, long time coach at Lansing High, guided the Boys Soccer team to the Class “C” NY State Championship game.

Award recipients were determined by overall performance in their sport. Each scholar-athlete recipient maintains a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0.
