200 Freestyle Relay
In a set back for Lansing, the relay team for the LadyCats finished in what appeared to be a very close second to Waverly, however they were disqualified due to a false start. The loss of the points would prove to be a challenge to Lansing’s effort to win the overall championships and lead to an exciting 400 Free Final later in the day.
100 Backstroke
In a rematch from the IAC Championships from the prior week, the 100 Backstroke turned out as exciting and close as anticipated. With Lansing’s Rory Allen (Sr) and Paige Kieper(Jr) up against Senior Victoria Wixson of Watkins Glen for a second week in a row the stage was already set. However, this time another swimmer was in the mix, Lillie Brenchley of Chenango Forks having qualified as the second seed in this event. The race was even through the first 100 yards with Brenchley in the lead followed closely by Wixson, Kieper and Allen. Today though it was Kieper who would not be denied and she raced for the win for Lansing with a personal best time of 1:02.63 just beating Wixson, who finished in a time 1:03.00. Allen was 4th behind Brenchley. Freshman Marin Allen who was also swimming the Championship Final laid claim to the 6th spot and served notice that she would be someone to watch in this event in years to come. Swimming for Lansing in the Consolation Final was Sophomore Lexi Ryan who finished in 14th.
100 Breaststroke
Just as the in the Backstroke, the Championship Final sported a rematch from the IAC Championships, with the top 3 qualifiers: Grace Ferris of Lansing, Katherine Meehan(Jr) of Watkins Glen and Claire Rejman(Fr) of Southern Cayuga all competing for the top spot for the 2nd week in a row. This time it was Meehan of Watkins Glen who came out on top with a personal best time of 1:10.04, just out touching Ferris who also swam a personal best of 1:10.48. They were followed closely by Rejman with a 1:11.00. Also scoring for Lansing was Senior Captain Carlyn Matheny in 15th place in the Consolation Final.
400 Freestyle Relay
Due to the earlier disqualification of the 200 Free Relay, Lansing was tied for the overall team score with Watkins Glen going into the 400 Free Relay. Senior Adele Ferris was well aware of what was on the line going in to this event. “This was my last relay, my last time swimming with this group of girls,” Ferris said “I wanted to be sure we went out with a bang! We only had to beat Watkins Glen, but we went for it all!” The team of Caroline Dennis, Rory Allen, Paige Kieper & Ferris brought home 1st place in the Relay with a winning time of 3:51.22 and the overall Section IV Class C Championship for Lansing!
