Swim Team Defeats Odessa-Montour

The Lansing Boys' Varsity Swim Team defeated Odessa-Montour on January 30, 2008 - the score was 61-31. Jake Sangren, Lansing's senior All-American swimmer, recorded a new Lansing school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.18. Jake eclipsed his previous record which was 54.74 (2007). According to Assistant Coach Reed Dewey, "It was good to see Jake better his own school record time in the fly." Jake also cruised to victory in the 200 freestyle (1:52.97) and was part of the winning 200 freestyle relay.

Lansing's Ari Darlow (junior co-captain) recorded first place finishes in both the 200 individual medley (2:26.25) and the 500 freestyle (5:36.08). Ari was also the butterfly leg of the winning 200 medley relay team. Casey Hagin (sophomore) finished first in two events - the 50 freestyle (23.91) and the 100 freestyle (53.12). Head Coach Brian Vaughan stated, "These two swimmers have worked hard over the course of the regular season and it shows."

In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Jake Sangren, Dan Ravas, Casey Hagin and David Bandler continued its quest for a state qualifying time. Their time was 1:33.79 and this brings them closer to the state qualifying time of 1:30.69. This was a first place finish for this team. In another relay event, the 200 medley relay, Lansing also placed first. The team of Clement Towner (backstroke), David Bandler (breaststroke), Ari Darlow (butterfly) and Aaron Eddy (freestyle) recorded the winning time of 1:54.38.
