On January 31, 2008, the Lansing Boys' Varsity Swim Team defeated Dryden 102-84.  Lansing ended its regular season of dual meets undefeated.  The highlights of this meet included the medley relay team qualifying for the state meet, two new Lansing school records, and four new Dryden pool records.

Lansing's 200 medley relay team – Jake Sangren (backstroke), David Bandler (breaststroke), Dan Ravas (butterfly), Casey Hagin (freestyle) – recorded the time of 1:41.24 which is a state qualifying time.  The time needed to qualify is 1:41.72.  Assistant Coach Reed Dewey stated, "Casey Hagin and Dave Bandler joined Dan Ravas and Jake Sangren to get the state cut in the 200 medley relay and post the fastest time in Section IV so far this season.  It's quite an accomplishment for these boys to get up and put a decent relay together, especially after losing Hans Roser, Aaron Mychack and Sterling Gell from last year's 200 medley relay team (3rd in the entire state).

The same foursome also came close to the state cut time in the 200 free relay."  This team's time is now a new Dryden pool record.  The old time of 1:44.26 was set in 2006 by the Lansing medley relay team of Jake Sangren, Hans Roser, Aaron Mychack and David Bandler.  When asked what it feels like to be going to the state meet, David Bandler responded, "It feels awesome!"  Casey Hagin stated, "This is terrific and fantastic!"  Dan Ravas said, "It felt pretty good to be going and now it is that much better to have the other guys go, too!"

Lansing's All-American senior, Jake Sangren, set a new Lansing school record in the 50 freestyle with the time of 22.25.  The time of 22.38 was previously set by Joe Rogan in 2004.  Jake's time is also a new Dryden pool record.  The old time of 22.41 was set in 2001 by Pat Fell of Waverly.  Jake Sangren also set a new Lansing school record in the 100 butterfly with the time of 52.18.  Jake had previously set the time of 54.18 the day before.  According to Head Coach Brian Vaughan, "Jake's new time in the fly puts him 4th in the state."  This time is also a new Dryden pool record.  The previous record time was set by a Dryden swimmer, Fuminori Yasaka, in 1994 (55.02).  The Lansing swimmers swept this event with Dan Ravas coming in second (56.39) and Casey Hagin third (59.10).

In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Casey Hagin, David Bandler, Dan Ravas and Jake Sangren moved very close to a state qualifying time.  This team recorded a time of 1:31.02; the state cut time is 1:30.69.   Coach Vaughan stated, "This team is only 0.33 seconds off qualifying for the state meet.  I expect them to qualify at the IAC Champs meet coming up on February 9th at EFA (Elmira Free Academy)." This time is a new Dryden pool record.  The old time of 1:32.32 was set by Waverly in 2001.

Lansing's junior co-captain, Ari Darlow, recorded a time of 5:35.08 in the 500 freestyle to edge out Dryden in an exciting first place finish.  This was Ari's fastest time this season in this event.  Dan Ravas (junior) finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.45.   Casey Hagin (sophomore) came in first place in the 200 freestyle event with a time of 1:59.01.

The Lansing team once again had important second and third place finishes in each event that contributed valuable points to aid in this win.   Lansing's Modified team also swam in this meet, and these younger swimmers are training hard and swimming fast.
