Lansing's Varsity Soccer team has had its ups and downs in the past two weeks, but they have rallied and will play in the Championships at Cortland State on Saturday (10/22). The team suffered it's first loss of the season in a home game against Marathon on October 6. "It seemed that we dominated the 1st half and then we played their style the second half," said Lansing Coach Adam Heck.

Two days later Lansing got back onto its winning streak in another home game against Dryden. "It was a much better overall game- we played with much more purpose to everything," said Coach Heck. "We defended real well." Ryan Tengi and Walker Diebolt both scored goals in the 2-0 game.


In the October 12 away game against Union Springs, Jason Weidman and Tom Kraft each scored a goal, and Lucas Heffron scored two. "We controlled the game but just could not finish well ," Coach Heck summed up. Still, Lansing won the day 4-1.

Celebrating Senior night in a home game on the 14th against Moravia Lansing pummeled the competition in a 4-0 game. Seniors playing were David Sotero, Josh Swearingen, Tom Kraft, Andrew Matier, Ryan Tengi, Treyson Barresi. "Treyson Barresi has started every game in goal since his sophomore year 58 straight games," noted Coach Heck.

The next day the team tied 1-1 with Southern Cayuga in an away game. The goal was scored by Ryan Tengi with an assist by Jason Weidman. This game placed Lansing in the wild card spot for the IAC playoffs.

Wednesday the 19th was the IAC Semi-Final Game. Lansing won 1-0 against Dryden. "This game was a thriller," says Coach Heck. "Jason Weidman scored with 1:09 left in the second overtime to give the guys a win and a trip to the IAC championship Saturday night. The game championship will be at Cortland State at 8:30pm.
