With two more meets under its belt, Lansing's Varsity Girls Swimming and Diving team finished its dual meet season this week with a 12-0 league record and a 13-0 overall record. As in past meets the Lansing girls clobbered the competition with approximately double their opponents' score in both meets.

The first, at the home pool, set Lansing against Frewsburg, a Class C school from Section 6. "Lansing stopped Frewsburg's winning streak 58-1," says coach Diane Hicks-Hughes. "The last time Frewsburg lost was to Lansing at Lansing in October 2001."

Lansing started out strong when Caitlin Wright, Becky Mapes, Claire Eckstrom and Kali Dean came in first in 1:59.15 in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. KC Hatfield, Leigh Conley, Maeve Campbell and Rachel Bland also scored for Lansing. In the second event dynamos Nikki Dean (2:02.52) and Hannah Wingate (2:05.37) took first and second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle, with Kendal Dean also scoring.

Lansing Swimmer Claire Eckstrom finished first in 2:22.15 in the 200 Yard IM with KC Hatfield scoring in third place. Kali Dean (25.71 ) streaked into first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with Caitlin Wright taking second and Rachel Bland scoring in fourth.

Kiki Gifft (192.55) took first in 1 mtr Diving, with Kristin Carlson (157.35 ) in second place and Danyelle Barron also scoring. In the 100 Yard Butterfly Hannah Wingate was less than a second and a half behind Frewsburg's first place winner when she completed the event in 1:05.85. Lansing swimmers Maeve Campbell and Kristin Carlson also scored.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle Lansing swimmers took the top three spots with Caitlin Wright (57.64) taking first, Rachel Bland (1:00.52) in second and Kendal Dean (1:02.67) in third place.

Nikki Dean sped into first place for Lansing when she completed the 500 yard Freestyle in 5:27.21, with Kali Dean also scoring when she made third place. Caitlin Wright, Rachel Bland, Hannah Wingate and Nikki Dean took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay in only 1:47.47 with Katrina Mehringer, Kiki Gifft, Kendal Dean and Kristin Carlson also scoring in the third place slot.

Claire Eckstrom took another first for Lansing, finishing the 100 Yard Backstroke in 1:06.23. KC Hatfield took second with Anna Mapes scoring in fifth. In the 100 Yard Breaststroke Becky Mapes (1:15.69) took first place with Leigh Conley scoring after completing the swim in 1:20.71. In the final event, Lansing took first and third places in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay
with Hannah Wingate, Nikki Dean, Claire Eckstrom and Kali Dean completing the relay in 3:55.72 and Kiki Gifft, Kayla Arrison, KC Hatfield and Kendal Dean in 4:17.27.

"Lansing had an excellent TEAM EFFORT today. NICE JOB!," exclaimed coach Hicks-Hughes about the 122 - 64 meet.

But Lansing wasn't finished yet! On the 25th they defeated Elmira Height's Thomas A. Edison (TAE) 119 - 50. From the first event Lansing was at peak performance.

The team took first and second place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay when Kayla Arrison, Kali Dean, Hannah Wingate and Katrina Mehringer finished in 2:13.87 and Chelsie Radcliffe, Rachel Bland, Caitlin Wright and Lexi Payton close behind in 2:21.57. Chelsie Radcliffe (2:29.67) and Sarah Tull ( 2:35.29 ) both scored in the 200 Yard Freestyle.

Nikki Dean sped to the finish in 2:27.19 in the 200 Yard IM, followed by Danyelle Barron in second and Ally Knoth scoring in fourth. Kali Dean completed the 50 Yard Freestyle in 28.25, taking first place for Lansing, with Natalie Usack taking second in 31.74.

Danyelle Barron (127.40) and Kristin Carlson (139.70) scored for Lansing in the 1 mtr Diving event. Then Claire Eckstrom took first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly, finishing in 1:05.89, with Becky Mapes and Kayla Arrison also scoring for the team. In the 100 Yard Freestyle Hannah Wingate (1:00.83) took first place with Lexi Payton and Alyssa Halton also scoring.

Lansing took three of the top five spots in the 500 Yard Freestyle with Claire Eckstrom taking first in 5:55.56, Leigh Conley second in 6:40.82 and Anna Mapes fifth in 7:21.44. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay Lansing took first with Leigh Conley, Rachel Bland, Kendal Dean and Caitlin Wright finishing in 1:53.61 and second when Kristin Carlson, Hannah Wingate, KC Hatfield and Nikki Dean completed the event in 1:57.26.

Kali Dean (1:08.79), Morse, Jessica (1:25.09) and Katrina Mehringer (1:25.46) won first second and third places in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Then in the 100 Yard Breaststroke Caitlin Wright (1:22.63), Rachel Bland (1:31.38) and KC Hatfield (1:33.65) all scored in second, third and fourth places.

In the final event, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Lansing scored first and second when Kendal Dean, Kristin Carlson, Becky Mapes and Claire Eckstrom finished in 4:26.83 and Nikki Dean, Kayla Arrison, Leigh Conley and Anna Mapes in 4:33.15.

Undefeated, the Lansing team looks forward to the AC Diving Championships and Swimming Championships at Horseheads Saturday (10/29).
