The Lansing tennis team has gotten off to a very strong start this season, winning all three of their opening matches. In the team's first effort against Waverly, Lansing swept the singles with wins from returning seniors Dan Zarate, Tyler Engels, and Jesse Ingalls. Eight-grader Jonathan Sun won forth singles to complete the shutout. Returning doubles players Nicolo Gentile and Lydia Warkentin, both juniors, and new-comers Keenan Hughes, Mary Bacorn, Ashley Schuster, and Ashley Fleming, helped the team defeat Waverly 6-1 in a match that made use of Lansing's lighted courts.

Typical spring weather wreaked havoc on the team's matches during the second week of play, delaying both the Trumansburg and Moravia competitions. At Trumansburg, Ingalls and Warkentin each dropped the first set of their respective singles matches, but rallied to win the next two to help the Bobcats defeat the Blue Raiders 5-2. Zarate posted a win in the second singles position in two straight sets, while Josh McGiff, stepping in for an ailing teammate, paired with Fleming to win third doubles.

On April 2, the Bobcats travelled to Moravia where they nearly blanked the Blue Devils, 6-1. Engels, Zarate, Ingalls and Warkentin soundly defeated their opponents while first singles Gentile and Bacorn won their match, 6-1 6-3. Versatile Fleming was again victorious in the third doubles slot, this time coupled with Taylor Schuster.

Mother Nature has gotten her way this week, forcing the Lansing team and their Watkins Glenn opponents to postpone their 4/6 match until Wednesday, April 23. The rescheduled match will take place in Lansing.

The Bobcats will play Southern Cayuga at home on April 22 at 4:00.
