ImageThe Lansing Cross team headed south to Candor for their first meet of the season and they made sure the trip was worth it.  Both the boys and girls varsity teams won.  The other teams participating in the meet were Candor, Tioga, Spencer VanEtten, and Groton.  Senior Jon Cleveland bested his last year’s time by 28 seconds to place first with a time 18:15, while senior Josh Barber placed 3rd with a time of 19:12.  The girls took 3 of the top 4 slots.

Kathryn Shaw (junior) placed 2nd with a time of 23:22, followed by Shanna Swanson (sophomore) in 3rd with a time of 24:43, and Chloe Ryan (senior) captured 4th with a time24:46. This was the first cross country race for both Shaw and Ryan who are new to the team this year. With teammates Casey Phlegar (J) 10th 28:37 and Meghan Mapes (F) 32:11, also first time runners, the girls’ team took the win over Groton.   Also scoring for the boys were Luke Davis (Sr) 6th 20:11, George Wigsten(Sr) 8th 20:38, and Eddy Potter (Sr) 13th 21:03.

The Modified runners Alex Ward, Emily Rasmussen, Shane Hradisky, Emary Iacobucci, and Rebekah Shea also participated.  The team is off to a strong start and will be a force to be reckoned with this season.  The teams’ only home meet is Tues. Oct. 6th against Marathon and Moravia.
