Image : The spectators at this week's cross country meet in Waverly were witness to something very special. It was the kind of sportsmanship, or in this case sportswoman ship, that you don't always see. In the Varsity girls race three runners from Lansing and three runners from Trumansburg were confused by the new course and markings which added almost a extra mile to their run. These six young women made it to the end of the race in a pack.

Despite the cheers from the crowd for a sprint to the finish, they instead decided to take each other's hand and finish the race together crossing the finish line at the same time. After they crossed the finish line they lined up in the order they went off the trail. It was truly a site to behold. The three young ladies from Lansing included Shanna Swanson, Chloe Ryan and Kathryn Shaw; and from Trumansburg Brianna VanSoest, Danielle Peck, and Chelsea Starkweather. In the end the Lansing girls placed 3rd behind 1st place Trumansburg and 2nd place Waverly; however, they have a memory that will end long after the score has been forgotten. Also running strong for the girls were Casey Phlegar and Emily Rasmussen.

After the girls, the boys had a tough act to follow. Given a tough course and some good competition they made their own mark by placing 1st over second place T-burg and 3rd place Waverly, finishing nearly at dark. Jon Cleveland had the lead in the race by over 40 seconds on the second place competitor. All boys ran a great race considering the rainy, wet conditions.

Scoring for the boys:

Jon Cleveland (Sr) 1st 18:47
Josh Barber (Sr) 3rd 19:33
Luke Davis (Sr) 6th 20:46
George Wigston (Sr 7th 21:08
