ImageThe 2nd ranked Lady Cats racked up another four conference wins in girls soccer action as the regular season begins to wind down. The defending Section IV champs in wins over Whitney Point (10-0), Union Springs (10-0), Southern Cayuga (10-0) and Groton (11-0) surrendered only four shots as they are as stingy on defense as they are ruthless on the attack. Technical and tactical sharpness has been the emphasis as the team prepares for what it hopes to be a sustained level of efficiency and confidence as the playoffs are mere weeks away.

Continuing to lead this offensive juggernaut are seniors Ellyn Grant-Keane and Mary Bacorn, juniors Kathryn Hornibrook and Taylor Jordan along with sophomore Tiffanie McIntosh. These five accounted for 33 of those 41 goals while junior Nina Lindberg scored her first three goal hat-trick against Groton this past tuesday. It has and will continue to be a daunting task to stop such a diverse and high powered attack. It has been characterized by a smooth, unselfish passing game and a high level of individual creativity. The teams speed and fitness level has been overwhelming to its opponents.

Goal-keeper M.C. Barrett continues her assault on the record books as she now has 53 career shuouts. She currently is in the top five in New York State for the career record. Anchored by three-year starters Katy Bland and Cassie Palladino, the defense is not only denying the opposition goals, they are not allowing shots. Tight making and even tougher tackling has made it difficult for teams to string together passes and has allowed the defenders to be viable attack options.

From back to front the team is showing a level play that has been rarely seen at the high school level, boys or girls. It is a team goal to play a game that is as pleasing to watch as it is to play. They are settling into a rhythm and all the team members are eager to dance to it. Up next for the ladies is a home night game that will have been completed by press time against T-burg and an away affair against Whitney Point today at 4:30. The last week of the season sees the ladies away at Marathon next wednesday before the regular season finale against Dryden next friday. That last game will be Senior Night for an outstanding class of seven. These seven are for their careers 71-4 and owners of three Section IV championships.
