ImageThe Lansing Wrestling team just completed it's 2009-2010 season on a great note. A 6th place team finish in the Division 2, NYSPHSAA State Wrestling Tournament.

But first let's jump back to the Section IV wrestling tournament. Our team finished 4th in the Division 2 tournament paced by outstanding performances by all the wrestlers that qualified.

96#  8th grader William Koll won his first two matches, but was very ill and could not make the semi-final match, and he ended up forfeiting out to a 6th place finish.

103# 8th grader Jacob Palladino wrestled very well considering his inexperience losing to very close matches. I can't wait till next year.

112#  Sophomore Corey Dake  Won his second Section IV wrestling title in as many years, beating Norwich's Tanner Cummings in the Final 6-0.

125# Senior Joe Jimenez ended his great Lansing career with a 4th place finish. I know Joe was disappointed he didin't reach his goal of a State Tournament bid, but that will be the fire needed for future success.

130#  Senior Sean Eastman wrestled well but came one match short of making the Podium. I will sure miss Sean Next Year.

135# Junior John Oblinski also Wrestled well. He, like Sean also came up one match short of the podium, however we get John once more.

152# Senior Andrew Morse took 6th place finishing his career on a high note.

171#  Senior Jon Glennon has lost only four matches this year, all to Tyler Beckwith of Greene. Jon took 2nd for the second year in a row.

189# Sophomore Ryan Todd punched his Ticket to the State Tournament with a point victory over Greene's Kurt Shear for his 1st Section IV title.

215# Senior Colden Knapp outperformed his expectations capping his senior year with a well deserved 4th place finish.

Now back to the State tournament; we qualified Corey Dake at 112#, Jon Glennon at 171#, and Ryan Todd at 189#.  As I said in the preview we placed 6th in the tournament.

112# Sophomore Corey Dake had a two point loss to Marion's Colten Dalbreth in the Semi-final, Corey then went on to beat Phoenix's Nick Tighe 3-1 putting him into the 4th place match where he lost to Eden's Tom Paige. For the second year in a row Corey placed 4th in the State tournament.

171# Senior Jon Glennon made the State Tournament with an At-large Bid for the third time. He once again couldn't get past Greene's Tyler Beckwith in the Semi- final, losing 2-1. I thought Jonny scored an escape in the last seconds of the match, which would have tied the match and sent it to over time, built the referees didn't see it that way. Jonny came back to register his highest state finish, 4th in 2007, 5th last year and finally 3rd this year.  Great job! We will miss you.

189# Sophomore Ryan Todd is a man child. He won his 1st three matches, and was well on his way to his first State Title when he injured his ankle. Ryan lost 10-8 to senior Colin Palmer of East Aurora. Ryan's finals match marked the 4th year on a row that "little old Lansing " had a wrestler in the State Wrestling Finals, and 5th consecutive trip to the State Finals for the team.

What a great year.

Finally, I would like to thank the Lansing crowd for their unconditional support and backing.

God Bless
