kyledake2010_120Wednesday's Planning and Engineering Department report to the Lansing Town Board ended more spirited than usual, culminating in thunderous applause.

"I would like to give a great big shout-out to my nephew Kyle Dake," said Engineering and Planning Coordinator Jeff Overstrom.  "A Lansing graduate.  Three-time NCAA record.   And go Kyle!  Next year he'll be the only one to win four times at four different weight levels!"

Dake, a junior at Cornell, defeated University of Iowa's Derek St. John 4-1 to win the 157-pound NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship last weekend at the Scottrade Center in Sait Louis, Missouri.  Dake is the first wrestler to win three NCAA championship titles at three different weights.  Last year he won the 149 pounds title when he defeated Penn State's Frank Molinaro 8-1.  In 2010 he defeated Iowa's Montell Marion to win the 141 championship.

This year he had a flawless 34-0 season, and earned the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association title.  If he wins again next year he will be the third wrestler to win four NCAA Division I championships.

As a team Cornell came in fourth in the NCAAs this year, following Penn State, Minnesota, and Iowa.

Dake won Lansing High School letters six times, making it to the State Championship three times, and winning two of those.  He was team captain all four years.  He was a NHSCA Wrestling Champion three times.  In 2008 he was a junior World Team member.  He is studying sociology and economic at Cornell.
