hocky2_120The Tompkins Girls Hockey travel teams ended their seasons this past weekend at state championship tournaments in Potsdam and Amherst.  The 19U Ithaca Shooting Stars traveled to Potsdam and advanced to the finals after a shootout in the semi-final match against the Lysander Lightning.

Clara Karastury scored with assists from Jacquelyn Cornell and Sabrina Edwards to lead to a 1-1 overtime tie.  After making 22 saves, Shooting Stars goaltender Ali Pace stopped five more in the shootout and Kathryn Luschwitz scored for the win for Ithaca.  Karastury scored assisted by Zoe Seznec Sweetland in Ithaca’s 2-1 loss to the Chazy Flyers in the championship match.

Lansing resident, Rachel Brock, contributed to the team’s championship bid with an unassisted goal in the qualifying game against the Sound Shore Warriors. The 19U season included a first place showing in the Finger Lakes Area Girls Hockey League Tournament and a 19-15-6 record overall.  The 14U Ithaca Shooting Stars won sectional playoffs to advance to their state tournament in Amherst.

The team did not qualify for the semi-finals, but played competitive games against the Potsdam Ice Storm, Rochester Edge, and Amherst Knights.  Playing the season with a young team and short bench, the 14U team clinched second place in their division of the Finger Lakes Area Girls Hockey League Tournament and finished the season with an overall 22-11-4 record.
