Flag FootballFlag FootballThe 2005 Lansing Flag Football team consisted of thirteen players (ages six to eight), seven parent/coaches, and two parent/helpers. These players learned the same basic plays used throughout a standard football program all the way up to the NFL. More importantly they learned teamwork, confidence and discipline; valuable skills that will help them on and off the field.

posticon Girls Varsity Swim/Diving Team Completes Winning Season

Lansing's Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving Team finished an amazing season as the top rated team at the IAC Championship on October 29th at Horseheads. "Lansing set a meet record in the 200 Free Relay," reports Coach Diane Hicks-Hughes. Lansing's Kristin Carlson took second in the Diving Championship as well.

Ms. Hicks-Hughes also notes, "Lansing took 1st place finish in Relays and had 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finishers in individual events."

posticon More Wins For Lansing Boys Soccer Team

Lansing beat Waverly in the Section Four Playoffs 3-0 last week. Ryan Tengi scored two goals and Walker Diebolt scored one. Devin Grant-Keane made two assists, and Nick Mallinson one. "We possessed the ball great!!!!!!" says Coach Adam Heck. This game meant 18 wins for Lansing, with only one loss and two ties for the season.

Next the team beat Dryden in the Section IV Quarterfinals 1-0. Walker Diebolt scored the goal 57 seconds into the game assisted by Tom Kraft. "This was the 4th time we beat a very good Dryden team this year," says Coach Heck. "They lost to one team the entire year. We were very proud of our defensive play. We neutralized their attack and were able to get one early one in the net."

posticon Lansing Claims IAC Soccer Championship

Lansing's Varsity Boys Soccer Team beat Marathon Saturday (10/22) to earn the second straight IAC Championship title. Lansing beat Marathon 3-1 in an exciting come from behind game.

Marathon got the first goal and kept the lead in the first half. The second half started slowly until 16 minutes before the end of the half Ryan Tengi hit a 30 yard direct kick to make a tying goal. "3 minutes later Walker Diebolt scored on a pass from Tom Kraft to go up 2-1 then five minutes after that Tom Kraft hit a long hard shot to upper left corner to make the score 3-1," reports Coach Adam Heck.

posticon Undefeated Girl Swimmers Blast Into The Championships

With two more meets under its belt, Lansing's Varsity Girls Swimming and Diving team finished its dual meet season this week with a 12-0 league record and a 13-0 overall record. As in past meets the Lansing girls clobbered the competition with approximately double their opponents' score in both meets.

posticon Boys Soccer Makes it to the Championships

Lansing's Varsity Soccer team has had its ups and downs in the past two weeks, but they have rallied and will play in the Championships at Cortland State on Saturday (10/22). The team suffered it's first loss of the season in a home game against Marathon on October 6. "It seemed that we dominated the 1st half and then we played their style the second half," said Lansing Coach Adam Heck.

Two days later Lansing got back onto its winning streak in another home game against Dryden. "It was a much better overall game- we played with much more purpose to everything," said Coach Heck. "We defended real well." Ryan Tengi and Walker Diebolt both scored goals in the 2-0 game.

posticon Girls Swimming & Diving Team Wins Another Meet

On October 13th Lansing's Girls Swimming and Diving Team remained unbeatable as they swam to their ninth win for the season. The team has no losses this season. This was their second match against Waverly, which they won handily with a score of 119-66.

The Lansing 'C' team, Claire Eckstrom, Hannah Wingate, Nikki Dean and Kali Dean, took first place in the Girls 200 Yard Medley Relay in 2:04.97. Lansing's 'E' team also scored, taking third place in 2:17.32. Swimmers were Kendal Dean, KC Hatfield, Becky Mapes and Leigh Conley.

posticon Lansing Wrestler Wins Medal in Puerto Rico

On Oct. 14th & 15th Lansing Wrestler Kyle Dake traveled to Aquadilla, Puerto Rico along with other wrestlers from the Shamrock Wrestling Club to compete in the 10th Annual Sparta Cup Freestyle Wrestling Tournament.

posticon Girls Ice Hockey Events October 17 and 24

Two events are coming up to introduce girls to the sport of ice hockey on Monday, October 17 and Monday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. at The RINK on East Shore Drive, just north of Ithaca. Tompkins Girls Hockey Association will host new girls at "Try Girls Hockey" on the 17th and "Open House" on the 24th. Both events are free and open to the public. No advance registration is needed.

On October 17, girls who have not played ice hockey before are invited to try on equipment and participate in a fun learn-to-play evening run by TGHA President Carol Mullins with help from members of the Ithaca Shooting Stars teams and the TGHA Initiation and House League programs.

Lansing's Varsity Cross Country team did well at the Divisionals in Groton on Tuesday (10/11). "We lost Pete Lee - but continue to do well," says coach Daryl Hill. The Boys team won the meet with 44 points. Lansing competed against Marathon, Moravia, So. Springs, and Trumansburg

Phil Abbott placed 2nd, Brian Mulvey 6th, Frank Massi 7th, Mark Bailey 8th and Srdjan Rackov 21. In Girls Cross Country Kylee Jordan placed 3rd.

Lansing maintained it's lead in Girls Swimming and Diving with a 8-0 record for the season so far when the Varsity team beat Southern Cayuga 63-31 (10/11). The unstoppable Lansing team took first place in nine of the eleven events.

Starting off, Hannah Wingate, Becky Mapes, Nikki Dean, Rachel Bland took first in the 200 Medley Relay, completing the relay in 2:04.92. In the 200 yard Freestyle Kali Dean finished first in 2:05.78. Caitlin Wright continued the winning streak, finishing first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:34.90.

Lansing's Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team is unbeatable with two more wins last week. In the Thursday September 29 meet Lansing beat Elmira Height's Thomas A. Edison (TAE) team 87 to 70.

In the TAE meet at Elmira Heights the Lansing team took first place in eight out of twelve events. Leigh Conley, Nikki Dean, KC Hatfield and Hannah Wingate took first place in the 200 Medley Relay in 2:14.44. Caitlin Wright finished first in the 200 Free in 2:15.24 and Rachel Bland finished first in the 200 IM in 2:52.78.

Senator Mike Nozzolio was recently honored by being among the first inducted into the Finger Lakes Youth Sports Hall of Fame.  Senator Nozzolio was recognized for his outstanding support for youth sports programs throughout his district, especially those for children and adults with disabilities.
