ITHACA, NY - The Cornell Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts opens its 2007-08 theatre season with the provocative play Good by C.P. Taylor. This chilling musical play examines how the veneer of "goodness" in individuals can be easily transformed, turning anyone into an agent of evil. Good runs September 13-15, 20-22 at the Schwartz Center.

"It's fascinating to think about how millions of 'good' people found themselves in a society spiraling into chaos under the Third Reich," said Director Bruce Levitt. "Although the play is set in the 1930s, it also illuminates the various contemporary political wars we still face." Good focuses on the life and work of a Faust scholar whose pro-euthanasia novel brings him to the attention of Hitler's Nazi party. The play is currently being made into a movie starring Viggo Mortensen slated to open in 2008.

The Schwartz Center production of Good features the talents of four Equity actors: Dennis Fox as John Halder, Jeff Guyton as Maurice, Carolyn Goelzer as Mother, and J.G. Hertzler as Bouller. Cornell students in the production are Ansel Brasseur as SS Major Freddie, Christine Bullen as Helen, Ariel Reed as Sister/Liz, Allison Buck as Anne, Lenny Rubin as Doctor, Matt Winberg as Eichmann, John Crooke as Dispatch Rider, and Ryan Oliveira as Hitler. Good also features five live musicians on stage under the music direction of Richard Montgomery. Designing the Cornell's production are: Tim Ostrander (set), Dan Hall (lighting), Warren Cross (sound), and Richard MacPike (costumes).

Evening performances of Good are September 13-15 and 20-22 at 7:30 PM. (Please note our new evening start time!) One matinee will be offered at 2 pm on September 22. A post-show discussion with actors and designers will be held September 20.
