August 6: 19 Lansing swimmers traversed Cayuga Lake on a near perfect Saturday morning last weekend. The swim was to raise money for the All Saints Roman Catholic Church and Lansing United Methodist Church's Youth Mission 2006, a trip to Saint Johns, South Carolina next year.
At 7:30 boats picked up the swimmers at Myers park to ferry them across the lake, where they began their swim. At 9:10 Adam Hardie and Lisa Patrican arrived at Dan and Eve Brown's dock on the Eastern shore. "I'm going to need a nap today!" exclaimed an exuberant Mr. Hardie. They reported that the water was calm, and they didn't think they were affected by the current.

This year's organizer, Steve Palladino, waited with a small group on the dock, checking progress with binoculars as volunteers in boats and the Coast Guard accompanied the swimmers. Watchers on the boats made sure none of the swimmers ran into trouble, and were ready to pick them up if they did. The Ithaca Coast Guard Auxiliary, which volunteers to help out each year, protected the swimmers from speeding boats in the area. This year five motor boats and two kayaks participated.

Swimmers raised money by getting sponsors. The swim wasn't a race, and swimmers came in at their own pace. In order of arrival, Adam Hardie, Lisa Patrican, Kelsey Quiggley, Amanda Lines, Rachel Palladino Tom Wilson, Katie Hranek, Cayla Griffen, Jeff Ryan, Joe Hardie, Sandy Dhimitri, Dan Ravas, Brendan Barrett, Devin Hegelein, Ryan Crettney, Megan Palladino, Kelsey Aasen, Nicole Earl, Cayla Holton, and Hannah Kyle made the two mile swim.

As each group of swimmers arrived the crowd on the dock got bigger, greeting new participants with applause as they arrived. Once everyone was accounted for everyone went up to the house, where a picnic table was decked out with breakfast for all the swimmers and their well wishers. Mr. Palladino reported the swimmers raised nearly $700 for the mission.
