ImageLansing Park Superintendent Steve Colt showed the Lansing Town Board a conceptual drawing Wednesday of a bridge that could span the Town's two major parks if the money can be found.  The  drawing  was created by John Dean, a local conceptual architect who has been involved with other park projects in the past.

"John is also the one who drew the conceptual drawing of the light house," Colt told Lansing's Town Board Wednesday.  "It came to pass.  He drew a picture of the gazebo.  It came to pass.  So now we've got a bridge.  We'll see if he can bat three for three."

The bridge would span over 100 feet across Salmon Creek from Myers Park to Salt Point, joining the two parks for walking traffic.  Since the Town signed a 25 year lease with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) in 2006 the idea of a bridge has been considered.  But it has been in the dream realm, not something that was practically budgeted for.

Colt has recently had some success in pursuing grants for park projects that has inspired him to try for bigger and better grants.  Colt says that a Tompkins County's Community Celebrations Grant might be appropriate for a project like the bridge if he can get it.  "It would be an awesome thing if we could find the money," Colt says.

Colt says he will also check with the Cornell University Engineering School to see if there is a chance of getting a class to take on the project.  Meanwhile the picture is hung on the wall in the Recreation and Parks Department office where visitors can see it and dream along with the Town.
