downtownithacaOn October 3, City of Ithaca Mayor Svante L. Myrick and the staff of the Downtown Ithaca Alliance held ribbon cutting ceremonies for three new businesses in downtown Ithaca.

At 3:00 PM, there was a ribbon cutting for Dr. Kenneth J. Wright at his new suite on the fourth floor of Clinton Hall above SewGreen and Bandwagon (110 North Cayuga Street). Known to many as the "Gentle Giant," Dr. Wright is a former bodybuilder and powerlifter whose passion for helping people led him to a doctoral degree at New York Chiropractic College. He has been in practice for over ten years, providing chiropractic care, applied kinesiology, and nutritional counseling in a variety of settings including family practice, elder care, sports medicine, and third-world outreach.

At 3:15 PM, there was a ribbon cutting for The Vintage Industry at their retail space just to the right of the historic State Theatre marquee (113 West State Street). The Vintage Industry specializes in a wide variety of antiques, vintage items, and collectibles, with noteworthy offerings of mid-century modern design, costume jewelry, clothing, photography, and folk art. The store is owned by Marie Sirakos, who co-owned Blue Bird Antiques with Jenny McGuire in the same storefront since 2007. The Vintage Industry is always buying, selling, and trading antiques, and estate liquidation and valuation services are available.

At 3:30 PM, there was a ribbon cutting for The Potter's Room by The New Green Gates Pottery at the former 3D Light storefront (109A The Commons). Artist Tomas Black moved his pottery business from Leverett, Massachusetts to downtown Ithaca in order to bring his studio model of teaching, production, and exhibition to a wider demographic. Featuring six electric pottery wheels as well as hand-building areas, the Potter's Room will host regular classes for anyone in the community who is interested in developing their skills in ceramic arts. The space will also be open seven days a week for retail sales and custom orders.
