We needed to vote NO on the latest Capital Improvement Project for Lansing Schools due to the high administrative salaries in Lansing. We are paying Dr. Mark Lewis a salary of $145,000 per year and Ms. Earlene Carr is given a salary of $87,000 per year as an 'Interim Elementary Principal'.

We feel that the Lansing School Board needs a reality check on the size of the school these people are managing. How is this justified when the School Superintendent for the entire Ithaca School District is paid a salary of $185,000 per year - and look at the size of that district and the number of schools she oversees.

We also voted NO on this project because the numbers of students at the elementary school are very low. When I spoke to a former Dryden resident, she informed me that Dryden has a big school building to pay for with enrollment numbers that declined after this building was approved. The Dryden residents now have to pay for a very large school.

The high school may be at full capacity right now, but that will not always be the case. Alternative solutions need to be considered. We also just do not have salaries in this Ithaca/Lansing area that can afford our taxes being raised, unless we also can make $145,000 per year. We just don't have that here. In our case, we may have to leave Lansing after our son graduates in June due to last year's school budget being passed. We are struggling to cover paying for our kid's college expenses and the current school taxes. We also pay higher salaries for our teachers in Lansing.

Sincerely,

J. M. Jones
