mailmanSenator Nozzolio has been kind enough to identify the reasons why we should vote against him: his voting record, his approach to the job, and how he represents his district.

The Republican majority in the Senate has consistently added to the budget presented by every governor, even Governor Pataki.  Why should we expect them to change if they achieve a majority again?

Mike Nozzolio offers you his proposals for controlling taxes and spending and for job creation over the Internet.  Read it, but do so with an enquiring mind.  For example, he offers a tax credit for hiring new workers as a means of job creation.  What planet does he live on?  Businesses hire new workers when they foresee a growing market for their products or services, not to get a tax credit.

At least his proposals show one degree of realism.  Neither he nor any other politician can do anything to create actual jobs other than government jobs.  They can only seek indirect means to encourage private job creation.  (The trick is to give the impression they are actually doing something.)

Make up your own mind if what you see is masterly political fluff and the careful avoidance of any difficult issues, an absence of vision and of capacity for leadership.

If so, then it is indeed time to dump this old pro, a superb local politico who has sat here too long for the little good that he has done.

Ed O’Shea is a new face, a new voice.  We need that.
