Doug Dake was named 'Class C Coach of the Year for Wrestling' Wednesday night.
ImageLansing Wrestlers end the season with a resounding bang, finishing 6th in the team race at the Section IV Finals.

On Febuary 21st, a record five Bobcat grapplers placed in the top five at the Section IV state qualifying tournament. Junior Joe Jimenez got back on the podium placing 5th at 125.

Freshman Ryan Todd placed 4th at 215, following up last years 3rd place finish at 171.

Junior Jon Glennon finished 2nd with a tough loss to eventual 189 pound State Champ Chris Nocchi from Waverly.

Freshman Corey Dake, won the 96 pound weight class, defeating Scott Stafford of Sidney 6-0 in the final for Corey's 1st section title. Finally, senior Kyle Dake won his 4th sectional title in a row, beating Tioga's Josh Manuel by a pin in 1:34. His performance earned him the most outstanding wrestler award.

Sean Eastman, Jon Fenner, Andrew Morse, and Jesse Bush all wrestled well, but fell one match short of placing in the tournament.

Led by  Kyle and Corey Dake, and Jon Glennon, Lansing finished 5th as a team this past weekend at the State Wrestling Tournament in Albany's Times Union Center.

In the 140 pound  championship, Kyle beat Letchworth's Mike Nevinger, (a 2 time state champ, and future Cornell Teammate), 2-1. This marked Kyle's  second State title in 3 years, and his forth time placing in the State tournament. Kyle has only lost two times in the past 4 years. He capped off this year with a 41-0 record, and capped off his stellar Career with a 218-14 six year varsity career.

Little brother Corey, wrestled great in his 1st State tournament placing forth at the 96 pounds. Corey, wrestling Dylan Kavanaugh of Vernon Verona Sherrill in the quarter finals, had a 2-0 third period deficit.He was able to tie the match at 4-4 at the end of regulation time, only to win the match 6-4 in sudden victory with a quick take down. Unfortunately, Corey had a tough loss in the semifinals to the eventual State Champ Jacob Goddeau of Peru. He was able to win his next match beating Pal-Mac's Jeff Olena 6-2, before losing in the consolation finals to Brendon Goldup of Schuylerville.

Jon Glennon was able to go to the tournament as a wildcard entry and wrestled very well indeed. Jonny went 4-2  losing a close quarter final match to eventual runner-up Jeremy Burns of Hoosick Falls,and Dan Frucella of Holland Patten in the consolation semifinals-9. Jon ended his day with a pin of Dave Jennings of Attica in 1:12 of a fifth place finish.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Fans(25 to 30 strong) that made the trip to Albany. Our faithful have been there all year and have made our trips Great!
