As Lansing School Superintendent Stephen Grimm and the entire school community deal with the budget crisis, one bright spot has been the success of Lansing's athletes this year. Grimm told the Board Of Education Monday that he takes inspiration from the student athletes that he has been following through the winter season, and singled out the girls basketball team.
"What a great example," he told the board. "They show us how a team can come together and continue to perform and never give up. I think about that on a daily basis when I'm going through the economic affairs with the state and the struggle between expenditures and revenues."

Grimm said the finals was a 'heartbreaker' for the team, but noted there is positive hope for next year's team that will include this years underclassmen. The team saw their first loss last Friday, finishing the season 22-1 and are IAC Division I and IAC overall champions
"We really have to work together, stay as a team, and continue to persevere," Grimm said, reflecting on the budget process. "And look for other ways that you can do things that may not be as obvious. They have been an inspiration for me in that way."

Grimm also spoke about two-time State Champion Kyle Dake, who was in attendance at the meeting. "Watching Kyle Dake go through and become a State Wrestling Champion, and seeing that his father, as coach when he talks about him, can't get 15 seconds into it without tearing up -- a tough coach -- to be able to do that you can tell it has an effect on Lansing," Grimm said. "Kyle is going to be going to Cornell. It's exciting that he's going to be in our back yard so that we can continue the excitement over the next four years."
Grimm also noted that Lansing had section champions in boys swimming, bowling, and our boys basketball, and honored all the teams this season.
