The first touchdown of the year for Lansing was scored by Colden Knapp on a five yard run in the first quarter, giving the Bobcats a 7-0 lead after the successful point after try by Ryan Todd. Early in the second quarter the Bobcat defense forced Candor to punt from deep in its' own territory and the snap from center ended up sailing into the endzone where the Indians punter alertly kicked it out of bounds for a safety, giving the Bobcats a 9-0 lead.
The Bobcats added to their lead when T.J. Cretney hit Craig Esposito on a twelve yard scoring strike midway through the second quarter. Todd once again tacked on the extra point, which gave the Bobcats their 16-0 lead going into the half.
The Bobcats threatened in the second half, but Candor dominated the time of posession and nearly tied the game up in the closing seconds, converting a number of key plays. Candor got on the board at the end of the third quarter scoring on a nine yard pass play. The Bobcats seemed to have things under control until Candor scored again with 46 seconds remaining, on a 49 yard pass that was surrounded by three Bobcat players, but tipped to a Candor player who caught and carried the ball into the endzone. The ensuing two-point conversion was stymied by the Bobcats, sealing the win.
Lansing's home opener is against Waverly on Friday night at 7pm.
