The Lansing 16U Softball team captured the Babe Ruth title this last weekend in Dryden by defeating Dryden in the first game and Ithaca Gold in the winners bracket 11-3 and again in the championship game 18-9. Coaches Drew Watson and Randy Randall commented on how proud they were of this accomplishment.
"This team is young and what they have learned-they took to the tournament and proved they can play varsity ball," Randall said.
The winning pitchers of the day were Kayla Green and Southern Cayugas' Erica Milliman. Lansings' center fielder Jenny Kelly was named tournament MVP and the players that contributed to this great effort were Kayla Clink, 1st base; Natia Murray,2nd base; Shalyn Watson, short stop; Kayla Mattoon, catcher and 3rd base; Sierra Boles, catcher; Chelsey Boles, right field; Seychelle Dechellis, outfield;and Erika Green, left field.
"I've told my players over the years 'if you learn to play as a team winning is the bonus!'" Randall added. "It held true and the girls should be very proud of themselves for that and I personally thank them for asking for the help."
