Ronan Corgel was a standout, qualifying for the NYS Championship Meet in the 100 yard Backstroke with a time of 55.42. Eighth grader Joe Koch narrowly missed the state cut in the 500 yard Freestyle with a time of 4:57.77. Senior Marty Aasen won the diving competition. Aasen's dives have been impressive all season, scoring high marks while diving at a competitive skill level.
Aasen also won the 100 yard Breaststroke race against Watkins with a time of 1:16.68. In addition, Lansing had a winning relay team in the 400 Freestyle Relay (4 x 100) made up of swimmers Joe Koch, Kyle Vandepoel, Neal Ruparelia, and Ronan Corgel who had an impressive combined time of 3:37.13.
The last home meet was also Senior Night, during which we celebrated the careers of seniors Joseph Jones (Captain), Jacob Ryan (Captain), Luke Schafer (Captain), Marty Aasen, and Paul Giannelis, all of whom have contributed a great deal to the success of the team over the last four years.
The team has two remaining swim meets at Southern Cayuga on 1/31 and at Odessa-Montour on 2/6 before heading into the IAC Championships on 2/11 and Class Sectionals on 2/18. The team is coached by Reed Dewey and Assistant Coach Joe Rogan, an alumnus of the Lansing High School Varsity Swim Team.
