State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli released an audit Wednesday identifying school districts that are not meeting all state-mandated physical education (PE) requirements for students. Of the 10 school districts examined, nine did not provide an adequate amount of PE to students in grades K-4, and seven did not do so for grade 5. Auditors did find that all 10 districts met the requirements for students in grades 9-12, nine districts met grade 6 requirements, and nine districts met requirements for students in grades 7-8.

"As childhood obesity continues to plague our children, it's more important than ever to get students moving and help them develop healthy lifestyle habits," said DiNapoli. "New York has set forth critical benchmarks that promote physical fitness and can foster improved academic performance, but they're only beneficial if schools follow the requirements."

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo reminded school leaders Monday of a new law requiring all school districts, serving students grades six through twelve, to provide free feminine hygiene products in restrooms. As the 2018-19 school year begins, this new law will ensure all young women across the State have equal access to these essential products.

"New York leads the nation is breaking down barriers to equality, and this legislation is a critical step forward in ensuring every girl in New York has the same opportunities to grow into a confident, successful woman," Cuomo said. "By providing all students with equal access to these products, we are creating a stronger, healthier New York for all."

dearmargaret My life feels topsy-turvy lately. My marriage has always been strong, predictable and stable. However, lately my husband seems to be going through a midlife crisis. He's unpredictable, restless, trying new ventures, and it scares me. I don't know if I can keep up, or if I even want to keep up with his pace of change. I worry that I will lose him if I don't make changes along with him. I feel like I'm living in fear and am not sure how to cope or even how to act or react in this new phase of our lives. What advice can you give me on coping with this new situation?

wellsAurora, NY - Wells College announced yesterday that it is dropping the published cost of its tuition for all new and returning students by 25%, effective next fall. For all new and returning students, the published tuition will be $29,400 for the 2019–20 year. This new tuition stands in contrast to the 2018–19 published tuition of $39,200.

As the cost of a college education has risen nationwide in recent years, families have become more concerned than ever about the high cost of a private college education. Wells College's new pricing better reflects what students actually pay, after scholarships and other forms of financial aid are factored in — which is especially important given that 99% of Wells students receive some form of financial aid.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced Monday that the Great New York State Fair broke the overall attendance record in its 177-year history and surpassed several daily attendance records over the course of its 13-day run. As of 1:45 p.m., more than 1.26 million fairgoers have passed through the Fair's gates so far since Opening Day. Cuomo, joined by state and local officials, marked the milestone by smashing an oversized record with baseball bats at a celebration in the Fair's Empire Room. The Governor also presented four lifetime passes and a host of Fair-related gifts to the family that broke the record as visitors 1,161,913 - 1,161,917 from the Town of Manlius and Village of Chittenango.

"We had a memorable Opening Day at the Fair, celebrating the new Expo Center and the Fair's long-standing traditions that draw thousands of visitors every year. The momentum of that day has continued over the past week, leading to the new all-time and historic attendance record," Cuomo said. "The improvements to the Fairgrounds are clearly making for a better visitor experience, helping attract more fairgoers near and far, and all while boosting the entire Central New York economy."

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo officially marked the opening of the brand-new Exposition Center at the New York State Fairgrounds Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 136,000-square-foot Expo Center, the largest indoor events space north of New York City between Boston and Cleveland, was unveiled during the kick-off of the 2018 Great New York State Fair. The new facility, and the recently completed renovation of the Fair's Orange parking lot, complete the second phase of the Governor's plan to revitalize the State Fairgrounds. The improvements complement Central NY Rising, the region's strategy to boost the local economy.

"The new Exposition Center is a welcome addition to the Fairgrounds that will not only help bolster State Fair attendance, but provide an event space capable of hosting a record number of visitors year-round," Cuomo said. "By boosting tourism and attracting businesses from across the country, the uniquely situated Expo Center will deliver lasting economic benefits to keep Central New York rising for generations to come."

dearmargaret I am married to a man with 2 daughters from a previous marriage. His wife passed a few years ago, as did my husband. My son and daughter are fine with my new husband. All offspring are adults, in their 30's. One of his daughters is very happy with our union. The other is very much opposed to it and makes her displeasure well known. I'd like to get past this because it is very hurtful to me. I do understand that it is not my problem, but that doesn't make the pain I feel from her rudeness less intense. How can I pull myself up despite how my husband's daughter treats me?
